It is a family of two engines deriving from the 6-liter N73, which is thus replaced. These engines, intended exclusively for luxury models, are characterized by dual supercharging, which was absent in the previous engine. In this case, the two turbochargers are located externally to each of the two cylinder banks. This engine is the direct replacement for the N73 engine, of which it incorporates many features, such as the V12- type architecture, the massive use of light alloy for cylinder block and cylinder heads, and even the same dimensional characteristics. Also in this case, therefore, it is a 6-liter that also incorporates direct injection power, a technical solution towards which various car manufacturers aim in the period around the end of the 2000s. Also from the previous N73 engine, the VANOS double variable valve timing system (now essential on any BMW) and the Valvetronic are borrowedfor continuous adjustment of valve lift. Among the salient innovations of this engine, the aforementioned double supercharging, obtained by means of two small turbochargers, one per bank, characterized by low inertia, must certainly be emphasized. This feature allows the engine to quickly rise in revs, avoiding the well-known phenomenon of turbo-lag. These turbochargers configured in this way allow the engine to deliver up to 544 HP, a level that is certainly not very high for a 6-liter twin-turbo, but which has actually been designed to ensure one of the most ready torque delivery in its category, just think that the maximum peak reaches 750 Nmalready at 1500 rpm and up to 5000 rpm. This engine is applicable only on the BMW 760i (F01) and 760Li (F02) (2009- 15 ).(E&OE)
